Terms of use

Effective date: September 26, 2026

These terms of use (“these Terms”) set out the conditions for using PDF Tools Japan (“the site”), provided by its operator (“we”). By using the site, you agree to these Terms.

1. The service

The site provides free tools to compress, convert and edit PDFs, convert images, and recognize text (OCR), among other things. Files are processed in your browser and are never sent to our servers.

2. Fees

The tools are free to use. No registration is required.

3. Prohibited actions

When using the site, you must not:

  • Break any law or act against public order and morals
  • Infringe the copyright, portrait rights, privacy or other rights of others
  • Place an excessive load on the site’s servers or network, or interfere with its operation
  • Modify or copy the site’s programs without permission
  • Do anything else we reasonably consider inappropriate

4. Your files and rights

You may only process files you have the necessary rights to. You are responsible for the contents of your files and for how you use the processed files.

Use Unlock PDF only on PDFs you created or whose password you know through legitimate authority.

Seal and signature images made with the Digital Hanko Stamp and Sign PDF tools are images, not certificate-based digital signatures. You are responsible for checking whether they are accepted for your documents.

5. Disclaimer

  • We do not guarantee that results produced by the tools are accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose. Always check the processed file before using it, for example in a submission.
  • Results of text recognition (OCR) and file conversion (such as PDF to Word or Excel to PDF) may contain errors or parts that aren’t reproduced.
  • Always keep a copy of your original file. We are not responsible for any loss of data or other damage arising from use of the site.
  • We are not responsible if the tools do not work correctly because of your device or browser.

6. Changes to or suspension of the service

We may change, suspend or end the site without notice. We are not responsible for any damage this causes.

7. Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms when necessary. The updated Terms take effect when they are posted on the site.

8. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute relating to the site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the court with jurisdiction over the operator’s location.
