When you can make your own ID photo
- Upload a photo to an online job application or entry sheet
- Print photos for a paper résumé (rirekisho) at a convenience store
- Prepare a photo for a My Number card application
Two ways to save
Single photo (for online submission)
One JPG cropped to the size you chose, saved at high resolution (about 600 dpi). Use it when uploading to online application forms or entry sheets.
L-size print sheet
An image with several copies of your photo laid out on L-size paper (89×127mm). Print it at “L” size at a convenience store multi-copy machine or a photo shop, then cut along the lines. Printing without enlarging or reducing gives the exact size. The number of photos depends on the size you choose.
Tips for a good result
- Take the photo in a bright place against a plain wall
- Face the camera directly and avoid shadows
- Fit your face inside the dotted outline, leaving a little space above your head
- Brighten dark photos with the “Brightness” slider
Please note
This tool can’t change or edit the background. Applications such as passports and My Number cards have detailed photo rules (background, face size, when the photo was taken, and so on). Check the official instructions and use a photo that meets them.
iPhone photos work too
Besides JPG and PNG, you can select HEIC photos taken on an iPhone directly.
