When you need to resize images
- An application form asks for a size such as “at least 600px wide”
- You want images on a blog or online shop to be the same size
- You need a size that fits a social media icon or header
- You want to shrink large photos to reduce file size
Three ways to set the size
Longest side in pixels
Sets the longer side of each image to the pixel count you enter. It keeps sizes consistent even when portrait and landscape photos are mixed.
Width and height
Set the width and height in pixels. With “Keep aspect ratio”, entering one value sets the other automatically so the image isn’t stretched. If you enter both, the image is sized to fit inside that box.
Percentage
Set a scale relative to the original. At 50%, width and height are both halved.
Output formats
Choose the same format as the original, JPG, PNG or WebP. JPG suits photos, and PNG suits images where you want to keep a transparent background.
A note on enlarging
Making an image larger than the original stretches it by filling in pixels, so it looks blurry. Where possible, use a size smaller than the original.
