When splitting spreads helps
When scanning books and magazines to read digitally, people often scan two pages at once. Left as spreads, the text looks small on a phone or tablet. Split into single pages, each page fills the screen and is easier to read.
It’s also handy for scanned textbook pages, or for splitting A3 spreads into A4-sized pages.
Choosing the page order
Right → left (manga, vertical Japanese books)
Japanese vertical-text books and manga are read starting from the right-hand page. Choose “Right → left” so the right page comes first and pages stay in reading order.
Left → right (most books and documents)
For horizontal-text books, documents and most Western books, the left page comes first.
Covers scanned as single pages
If only the cover is a single page and the rest are spreads, tick “Don’t split the first page (cover)”. With “Only split wide (two-page) pages”, portrait pages are left as they are.
Quality stays the same, and text stays selectable
The tool only divides each page’s visible area into left and right, with no image re-compression. Quality stays the same as the original, and PDFs with text can still be selected and searched.
